Seoul Metropolitan Government, which creates new installation art for Liberation Day every year, has commissioned a large-scale mobile art that will be installed and displayed at the art fence surrounding the City Hall construction site.
The monument titled, ¡°I Love Daehanminguk,¡± depicts Lake Cheonji on Mount Baekdu and images of independence fighters. Measuring 75 meters in width and 20 meters in height, the art mobile is made of 21 colors. The lighting ceremony will take place at 8 p.m. on Aug. 14 as part of the 64th anniversary of Liberation Day eve concert by the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. The monument project will be on display for 10 days, from Aug. 12 through Aug. 21. The installation will stay illuminated every night from 9 p.m. to midnight.

The plastic balls that make up the work move like waves with the breeze, making Mount Baekdu¡¯s Lake Cheonji and the independence fighters appear to be live and moving on a grand scale.
Monument projects displayed at Seoul City Hall to commemorate Liberation Day and the founding of the country began in 2005 when 3,600 Korean flags covered the entire City Hall façade.
A concert marking the 64th anniversary of Liberation Day will take place on the evening of Aug. 14 at the Seoul Plaza. Ballet ¡°Romeo and Juliet¡± will also be staged along with opera pieces. Admissions to the free performances are on first-come first-served basis. The Seoul Plaza can accommodate some 12,000 people. In the event of rain, the performances will take place on Aug. 15.
