A small theater for experimentations and new attempts
The Samil-ro Changgo Theater is Korea’s first private small theater that has led the small theater movement in Korea since its foundation in 1975. The theater closed six times but reopened every time; in 2013, it was designated as the Future Heritage of Seoul, recognized for its spatial and historical value and significance.
Since its seventh reopening in June, 2018, the theater is run by the public-private governance with the field artists under the slogans of “the theater that goes with the art scene” and “contemporary creative platform.” The theater has a convertible stage with 60-80 seats, and its annexed building has a gallery on the first floor and a studio on the second floor.
