Panel's Summary Overview
|
The
Seoul Street Arts Festival 2026 has marked a new turning point by relocating
from traditional downtown plazas, such as Seoul Plaza, to Ttukseom Hangang
Park and Seoul Forest. Accordingly, this evaluation prioritized "spatial
suitability"—ensuring the works not only demonstrate artistic
completeness but also align with the scale and atmosphere of the Han River—as
the top criterion.
Out
of 285 total submissions, a collaborative review process led to the final
selection of 10 domestic and 6 international works. This year, particular
attention was paid to works that align with the festival's core directions:
"Seoul-ness, the climate crisis, community and inclusivity, and the
intersection of art and technology." Furthermore, to ensure diversity and
balance within the festival, fresh new works were considered alongside highly
interactive pieces that invite direct audience participation. However, given
the nature of the new venues, some works were
designated as reserve selections to account for potential variables in
subsequent venue approvals and technical consultations. We hope that the
number of performances and artist fees for these works can be flexibly
adjusted through discussions with the department in charge.
We
hope that this expansion from the city center to the river and forests will
offer citizens a more immersive street art experience and infuse new vitality
into the Korean street arts ecosystem. We express our deepest gratitude to
all the artists who joined us in envisioning this festival, and we look
forward to the selected works bringing joyful memories to the citizens of
Seoul this coming September. |
